Summer ELL Program Overview

St. Michaels University School’s (SMUS) ELL Summer Programs are designed to encourage students to develop confidence and independence in an English-speaking environment while experiencing life in Canada.

These intense, challenging and rewarding English language programs are designed to give beginner to advanced level English learners a well-rounded academic and cultural learning experience. Upon arrival, students take the iTEP English Assessment test, and are then placed into classes with students from all over the world and have similar skill levels. Classes are also balanced to consider cultural background, age, gender, and maturity level. In the General English Program, there are five distinct levels: Junior, Beginner, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced. The Academic English Program has two levels: Upper Intermediate and Advanced. Students who successfully complete the Academic English program will receive four credits that can be used towards their high school completion requirements.

Students must have at least a 4.0 or higher in IELTS or comparable standardized language test to be registered in the Academic English Program. An entrance test and interview will be required for those who do not have a standardized English language test result.
