Here are the steps for you to connect your H: drive on your home computer: (Windows)
1) Check if your computer is 32-Bit or 64-Bit:
If you are running Windows XP it is 32-Bit
If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 - open the 'System' control panel and check the System Type
2) Download the SMUS VPN client program for your windows version by clicking on a link below:
SMUS 32-Bit VPN Client
SMUS 64-Bit VPN Client
3) Choose to Run the program and place the 2 files that will be extracted into a folder on your computer
4) Install the VPN client program that is in the folder you saved the download to - accepting all the install defaults
You can choose to run the Client when the computer starts - or put an icon onto your desktop yourself for access
5) Start the Sonicwall VPN Client program
IMPORTANT: When the 'New Connection Wizard' starts - please cancel it
6) Choose File-->Import and open the 'SMUS Network.rcf' file from the downloaded folder
7) Click the enable button - and log in with your regular SMUS username/password
(the first time only it will ask for them twice)
8) This step is only done the first time: Map a Network Drive by doing the following:
Click Start and then right click on Computer/My Computer - Choose 'Map Network Drive'
Select H: drive from dropdown
In the Folder field type: \\smus.local\studenthome\user.name (where user.name is your actual username)
(If you are faculty/staff: \\smus.local\staffhome\user.name)
(If you are Junior faculty/staff: \\smus.local\jrstaffhome\user.name)
Check the 'reconnect at logon' box
XP - click on the 'different user name' link and enter the network credentials listed below: (click OK, then Finish)
Vista, 7 - check the 'connect using different credentials' box and click Finish, enter the network credentials listed below:
for username enter: smuslocal\user.name (where user.name is your actual username)
for password enter: your regular network password
You can now use your H: drive exactly as if you were at school
9) When you are finished using your H: drive go back to the VPN Client program and click the 'Disable' button
10) In the future you will only need to run the VPN Client - click 'Enable' and then you are good to go!
You can also connect your S: drive by using:
\\smus.local\departmentaldocs in the Folder field above
Similarly you can connect to the P: drive by using:
\\smus.local\userfiles in the Folder field above
